DISCOVERING OUR CALLING IN THE LIFE AND MISSION OF GOD

The School of Theology and Vocation plays an important role in equipping the university to participate in God’s mission of redemption in this world. Leading both students and faculty in thoughtful engagement between the Bible, academics and spiritual formation, the school facilitates faith integration and encourages the discovery of our unique callings.

The 12-hour Theology and Vocation Core gives every student the opportunity to think deeply about how spiritual life, academics and work are interconnected. And those students who sense God calling them into fields of Christian ministry, pastoral care, cross-cultural missions or Christian education will get the training they need with one of our three majors: Scripture and Theology, Christian Ministry and Theological Studies.  Whatever the course of study, our international and world-class faculty is here to encourage all LETU students to discover their purpose in life in the life and mission of God.

  • Students deepen their skills in biblical interpretation and leadership.
  • Students have opportunities to experience faculty-led trips to the Middle East as part of the Physical Settings of the Bible course. Recent destinations have included Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Italy and Greece.
  • All full-time Biblical Studies and Christian Ministries faculty:

    ABOUT LETU

LeTourneau University is named for its founder, R.G. LeTourneau, one of the world’s greatest inventors of earthmoving equipment and was founded in 1946.

Today, more than 1,150 students attend LeTourneau University classes online or at our educational centers in Dallas and Houston and might not step foot onto the university’s beautiful main campus in Longview, Texas unless they come for graduation.

    The university has eight schools.

    School of Arts & Sciences
School of Aviation & Aeronautical Science
    School of Business
    School of Education
School of Engineering & Engineering Technology
    School of Nursing
    School of Psychology & Counseling
    School of Theology & Vocation

Currently, LeTourneau University is led by its sixth president, Dr. Dale A. Lunsford, and its board of trustees.

LeTourneau University is an unapologetically Christian university. While it has no direct denominational ties, it welcomes students of all denominations who love and seek after God. It is a place where students have found a deeper relationship with Him, grown in their spiritual walk and discovered God’s purpose for their lives.

    YOUR LETU FACULTY

LeTourneau faculty have experience in the disciplines they teach, so they can guide students to transform academic theory into key skills that can be applied to today’s job markets. Our faculty are selected on the strength of their credentials, overall experience, commitment to Christian education and willingness to be accessible to students and support the collaborative academic environment important to hands-on learning.

    KELLY LIEBENGOOD, Ph.D.
Dean and Professor of Biblical Studies and Theology

Welcome to the School of Theology and Vocation. We exist because LETU is intentional about being a Christian university, where students, faculty, and staff deepen their commitment to Christian teaching, learning, and living.

We have an exciting mission. Not only do we prepare our majors to interpret the Bible and lead communities into deeper expressions of Christian discipleship in a variety of ministry contexts, we also are tasked with equipping students from every major to help them explore their Christian calling (or vocation) and how it is connected to their studies and their career aspirations. In addition to this, we work with faculty across campus to encourage reflection on the ways in which Christian faith informs our academic disciplines, and also the ways in which our shared and intersecting work as professors is mutually enriching both for faculty and for students.

Our prayer is that the work that comes out of the School of Theology and Vocation helps us all grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ; that we foster delight in God and His love for us; and that we are encouraged to embrace our calling to participate in God’s holistic mission of redemption and reconciliation in this world.

    Larry J. Frazier, Ph.D.

Dean of the College of Education and Professor of Church History

“As teachers we believe that the God-given potential of our students is realized through the mastery of academic knowledge and skills, empowering them to respond to God’s call, to function as co-workers in our academic disciplines, and to enter into the workplace with marketable skills. As scholars, we believe that students should be engaged in the discovery and expansion knowledge. By mentoring them into our academic disciplines, we impart the insight and ingenuity required to solve problems and make a difference in this world. As servants, we believe that we can fully engage in our academic disciplines only after our hearts have been transformed by the grace of God. This transformation leads us to integrate our faith and work as an expression of the love of Christ.”
